I’ve helped my friend out of an abusive relationship and I don’t know how to handle everything it’s throwing at me. I think I’m doing okay, I’m reading the books and doing more research on how to be supportive, but no one tells you how to handle when you buy a plane ticket to get them 4000+ miles away because he threatened to kill her if he ever saw her again and she asked you to help her get out, and then a week later, she’s on the phone with him talking about getting back together. I know it’s part of the process, and it’s not like he’s gonna come get her, plus he already said he wouldn’t buy her ticket home (she got herself here, she can get herself back according to him), and I’m not helping her get back because I know she’ll end up in a coffin. I’m just struggling and I want to be the best friend I can for someone who was serious about escaping, escaped, and is now romanticizing and communicating with her abuser. Any help and advice is appreciated.

i've been poor my entire life. my father had money, growing up, but he never wanted to spend much on me. he got me food and my clothes, but outside of bare essentials he wouldn't spend money on anything for me. i had poor friends who had more toys and video games than i had. even other single parent families did.
when i was very young i saved up all of the money i'd get from christmas and birthday cards. i had a small fortune, it seemed to me. it was probably only a little over 1 or 2 hundred dollars, but to very young me that was a lot. i was proud of myself for saving it, for not wasting it on anything dumb. one day, my father saw me counting it, and he took it from me. he must have thought i'd stolen it from me, he just told me he put it in my bank account (we started bank accounts in kindergarten or first or second grade or something like that, it had nothing really in it, just 25 dollars or so), but he never did. after that, i had a really hard time holding on to money, i just wanted to spend it before he'd have the opportunity to take it away again. i think i developed some kind of complex because of that, honestly.
i had a summer job, when i was 14, or so. i was a "CIT", a "counselor in training," for my local boys and girls' club. They just had you work 3 weeks out of the summer and they paid you 50 dollars a week. It was below minimum wage, I don't know why they were allowed to do that but it was somehow legally allowed by law to pay minors less than minimum wage. so i worked for my 3 weeks and my father never let me spend that money. he forced me to put it all in the bank and not buy myself anything with it, even though he'd let my older brother buy a pair of sunglasses with his when he was 14. i didn't get access to that money until I was 19 or something like that.
then i got my first real job, probably at 19 or so, cleaning a bank for an hour a night 5 nights a week. then they cut me back to 2 or 3 nights a week. i forgot how much i was making then, but it couldn't have been much more than 50 dollars a week. i did that for like 3 years before i got a job at the taco bell.
i worked part time for a few years, always at that taco bell. it was a taco bell / long john silver's combined restaurant, i fried the fish and chicken and french fries. i could only work part time, even then when i was 23 or 24 or so. at first i worked more than i could handle, something like 16 or 18 hours a week, or so. three or four nights a week. but, after a while, that was too much for me, so i cut it back to two 4-hour shifts a week. it didn't pay much, but it gave me enough money to eat at the mcdonalds i practically lived out of with how often i was forced to eat there. it was 3 quarters of a mile away and i had to walk there and back every time i ate there, but it was open 24 hours - for a while, at least -, and i needed a place to eat late at night, since i wasn't allowed to eat late at home. literally most of my money i earned went into eating because i wasn't allowed to eat in my home at night.
i didn't work for a couple of years but then i moved in with my mom and her awful alcoholic partner who extorts money out of me. first he forced me to work while i was waiting on my disability claim to come through, which had negative implications for my claim and also aversely affected my benefits once my benefits actually came through. i had to work at some dumb convenience store, stocking the sodas in the cooler, for 2 four hour shifts a week. i didn't make much money. maybe 400 dollars a month? i had to pay half of that in rent, so i'd only have 200 dollars to spend on myself, and importantly, my dog, for an entire month. things like vet bills wiped out months of savings. i'm constantly worried about money.
now i'm on disability, and i get very little money from it. i get barely more than enough to pay my rent - and, now that i'm on medicare, i have to spend more money on my medical treatment than i had to when i was on medicaid, which i no longer qualify for since i'm on medicare now. i've actually been losing money month to month lately without even spending anything on myself, i just make less per month than my expenses.
and this is just going to be the rest of my life. i will always be poor. i will never feel secure. my entire life has been in poverty.

I got dumped.
However, I’ve been heart broken before. Not too many times. I’ve really only had 3 lovers. I’m 26.
This experience is different. What makes it better is that I didn’t cheat. I was loyal every step of the way. I got dumped though, and that’s that. This happened a week ago. There’s not much context here for the sake of the following paragraph.
What’s helping me a lot is the fact I haven’t drank, nor smoked weed to mask the emotions. Or in other words, to numb the pain. I also havent watched porn, or even went on a run to just meet someone else. I’ve been doing things to keep my mind occupied in a productive manner.
This has been the best thing I feel that I have done for myself thus far.
Why drink or smoke weed for the sake of numbing the emotions? It’s not going to make any difference in the grand scheme of things. Life goes on and there’s no point in dwelling through things. Literally would only be a waste of my time, energy and money meanwhile she’s moved on.
This has helped my confidence and self esteem. Not in an arrogant way, but confidence in being able to maintain the love I have for myself. All I’m saying is, just feel through the emotions. Just sit there and feel. Cry if you have too. Shit I cry. I cry in the shower, while I drive to work, on my lunch, and on my way home. Sometimes before I sleep, but it’s okay. That’s part of the natural healing process. I sometimes even just yell “FUCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKK” while driving to get all that energy out. Then I’m just quiet.

2023.06.05 08:50 LegExpress I (21 F) and my boyfriend (23 M) went out and drank and in the middle of the night my boyfriend urinated all over the bed and even in the closet on the floor.
I F 21 have been with my boyfriend 23M for 7 months and I just moved into my new place and I had bought myself a really nice mattress as a gift to myself. I spent around $3500 for this mattress. My boyfriend 23M and I where out last night and we came home and my boyfriend urinated in my bed while we where sleeping. We both where drinking and he had too much had caused this. Well it’s the next day and I’ve washed all the sheets and realized urine saturated though the mattes cover and into the mattress. Not only that it got all over some of the pillows and saturated my $800 down duvet I bought last year for myself. Not only that my closet in the bedroom smells like urine so it somehow got saturated into the closet floor. I’m pretty upset that all my nice stuff is now disgusting. My boyfriend had to work an eight hour shift today and he’s always super tired when he gets home and he literally passes out every time I cleaned up mostly everything for him all my sheets. The only things that are still dirty is the mattress, the duvet, and all the rugs on the ground, I asked him to please steam clean the rugs after work because I own a steam cleaner, and now he’s passed out and he keeps saying he’s gonna do it but he’s not. He passed out on the couch and keeps saying he’s not going to sleep and he’s going to clean it but I know he’s not going to if he doesn’t get up. He works tomorrow as well so the only time he can clean it is before work and it’s my birthday tomorrow. The entire room smells like urine because the floor and the mattress. I literally have to have some mattress cleaner person come and clean the mattress on my birthday tomorrow. It’s like 11 PM right now and I’m just kind of mad that he still hasn’t clean the rugs yet. He’s been home from work since eight. I’m sympathetic to his embarrassment but I’m also just kinda annoyed I just want everything to be cleaned up asap I mean it’s urine it’s pretty gross to smell that coming from the room. Also I have an extra bed room that I can sleep in for tonight so that’s nice but it’s not the room I want to be in when I have this nice mattress. Like can I wake him up to try and make him clean the floor I really don’t want to wake up and still have this room smelling like piss on my birthday. Should I made it a big deal and wake him up or should I leave it for him to do in the morning?

My (f24) roommate (f25) has lived out of home since she was 18, so I didn’t think we would have any troubles with cleanliness.
However, this has not been the case. She lets bins overflow, “forgets” to buy any shared stuff like toilet paper or bin liners, won’t wipe dishes before dishwasher (I’m talking leftover chunks of food in the bowls), doesn’t do any sort of cleaning beyond the abysmal dishwashing attempt, and then does weird stuff. For example, our bathroom sink hasn’t been draining so I just had a look and it’s so full of hair it’s like she’s putting it in there on purpose. She won’t sort rubbish/recycling so there’s food sitting beneath what I’m thinking is just cardboard. She leaves stuff in the fridge to mould and then has the audacity to inform me “my” food is going off. She won’t use the shower curtain so the floor is like a swimming pool every day.
I’ve tried to speak to her about it but she just responds saying that growing up, she never had to do anything like this. I found out recently that her family is ridiculously wealthy , so I’m guessing they had people clean for them, or her parents just did it for her. I don’t know. We are also living in a gorgeous old apartment but any time I ask her to clean or do anything she says that the apartment is so much work because it’s old. The “work” being, doing the dishes, not soaking the entire bathroom floor, etc.
She’s also got her boyfriend practically living here, and he’s unemployed, so while she’s “working” from home he’s legitimately just sitting around all day. I’m pretty chill and I don’t mind him but I don’t want to hear their gross play flighting and baby talk throughout my work day and then really late at night.
She’s honestly a nice person, I think the issue is that she wasn’t expected to be considerate of anyone else growing up (only child as well as very wealthy) and now says things like “I’ve never met anyone who cares about recycling as much as you!” My défense is i feel like not putting food in recycling or hair down the drain is just common sense.

It’s been almost 2 years since my last relationship ended, and I’ve finally reached a point where I feel ready to find a new partner. I can’t help but feel jealous of those that seem to get into new relationships like it’s easy.
I’m starting to get myself out there, but it’s been difficult. I’m an introvert, so I find it hard to meet and connect with new people. A couple weeks ago I had a great conversation with this woman, got her number and arranged a date…only for her to cancel the day before and say she’s not interested anymore. This was the first person I really felt a spark with in a long time, and it sucked that she didn’t feel the same way. I still haven’t been able to get a a single date since my last relationship ended.
I desperately miss the intimacy of being with a partner, and I’ve been feeling really lonely lately. I’m not talking about sex, just the sense of closeness you get with being with someone that you care about.
I’ve been making an effort lately to spend more time around people, with family, and rekindling old friendships, but that doesn’t make me feel any less lonely…especially when I return home every day to an empty apartment by myself. So that is my question - how do you stay positive when you’re single and feeling lonely? At this point I really just want to go on 1 date (and I’ll pay!)

Esp when comparing military physical conditioning particularly brute strength (esp standard army training)?
My brother who's served in the marines and stopped and just recently re-enlisted again now came back home. Today when I woke up I saw him doing 50 pullups as a warmup to his MMA training. So I am very curious.
In army vs marine fights, one common comments I hear is that marine requirements isn't special by detractors of the USMC (esp servicemen from other branches in particular the army) because "the only difference is that you run 1 more mile and you do pullups!". However the belief pullups don't do anything different is not just something held by anti-marines in other branches. I saw this comment by a practitioner of HEMA which is basically reconstruction of lost European swordsmanship and other close combat styles including obscure historical wrestling styles and forgotten kicking techniques and so much more.

I am curious does adding pullups to your training a big deal of resulting in more physical fitness esp strength and stamina? Does it really make people have far more endurance in the battlefield? I mean despite what people from multiple non-military fields such as gymnastics say about pullups being pointless, practically all hardcore jocks I know in baseball, soccer and other spectators sports of top popularity esp football do pullups in addition to the typical training of their sports and additional weight training. Same with Rangers and other SOF units despite already being top tier from their secret ops training. Even in the bodybuilding world, plenty of people disagree with the no pullups needed advise and do it in their own freetime. Certainly Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronnie Coleman did pullups. In the boxing world Mike Tyson and George Foreman did pullups too and both boxers are renown for their hard hitting powers.
So I am curious is adding pullups a big deal? Even a number as small as 4? I mean even the female marines used to be required only to do flex arm hangs for a few minutes. So I assume that 3 pullups brings a considerable boost to physical conditioning?

(Marines are an exception really, because in effort to be "different" than the Army they decided to make pullups their main focus instead of more useful pushups, which is imo foolish because nowhere on a modern battlefield will you ever hang from a bar and pull yourself up. Unfortunately even the US military doesn't always behave in the most rational way when it comes to training soldiers, sometimes bowing to what is traditional more than what is well validated with empirical research. This is how Marines end up focusing on a battle-field useless exercise like pullups, and the Air Force requires its airmen to ride exercise bikes which again, has no practical usage for a battlefield. Their measuring a type of fitness level, but not one that is applicable to modern battlefield warfare. The US Army physical education program favors training for actual battlefield situations moreso than the other branches do)I seen similar comments from other non-military subject specialists such as many traditional martial artists saying pullups are not needed and you are better off doing forms and older boxing coaches from the pre-Mike Tyson years say the same thing. As do some bodybuilders and weightlifters (who believe heavy weights are all you need) and other experts from a variety of fields.

Long story short, she was bothered by the fact that I was more attracted to the male characters of the movie than to the women.
This then turned into a huge blowup fight on how she feels that i am more attracted to males, and if given the opportunity, i would leave her for a guy. I thought she was blowing this way out of proportion, and that is wasn't fair to assume that of me based off a fucking movie. She then starts going down the list of all the famous male crushes i've had in the past and how I she rarely hears about me crushing on woman celebs. I told her she was ridiculous and I would never leave her for some dude and that i was attracted to men just as much as women. She then kicked me out of her home because she felt I was downplaying her feelings and she has ignored my messages/calls ever since.
I honeslty don't know what to do. I love men/women both the same and i felt it was unfair for her to base her aurgument over fictional chatactecelebs. How can help reassure her if she won't even talk to me?
