Unleashing the Flavors: The Ultimate Guide to Unboxing and Using Your Tandoor Oven! 🔥🍢

Unboxing the Tandoor Oven: A Step-by-Step Guide

If you're a fan of deliciously charred and smoky flavors, then unboxing a tandoor oven is an exciting moment. A tandoor is a traditional clay oven used in Indian and Middle Eastern cuisines to cook a variety of dishes. Whether you're a seasoned chef or an adventurous home cook, unboxing and setting up your new tandoor oven is an important first step. In this article, we'll walk you through the process step by step, ensuring you have everything you need to start your culinary journey.

Step One: Breaking the Metal Strip
Once you have your tandoor oven crate ready, locate the metal strip that secures it. Using a pair of wire cutters or pliers, carefully break the metal strip and remove it. This will free the crate and allow you to proceed with unboxing.
Step One: Breaking the Metal Strip

Step Two: Opening the Top Lid of the Crate
With the metal strip removed, you can now open the top lid of the crate. Lift it gently, ensuring not to strain yourself or damage the contents inside. Set the lid aside in a safe place as you'll need it later for storage or transportation.
Step Two: Opening the Top Lid of the Crate
Step Three: Opening the Front Lid of the Crate
Inside the crate, you will find a front lid. Open it to reveal the tandoor oven nestled securely inside. The front lid might be secured with additional packing materials such as foam or bubble wrap. Remove any such protective layers carefully to prevent any potential damage.
Step Three: Opening the Front Lid of the Crate
Step Four: Pull the Tandoor Out
Now that the front lid is open and any protective materials have been removed, you can slowly and steadily pull the tandoor oven out of the crate. Be mindful of the weight and size of the oven, ensuring you have a firm grip to avoid any accidents or injuries. It's always helpful to have an extra pair of hands for this step.
Step Four: Pull the Tandoor Out
Step Five: Pick the Metal Plate, Sidearm, Skewers, and Operational Manual
Alongside the tandoor oven, you will find several accessories that come with it. These often include a metal plate, a sidearm for placing skewers, skewers themselves, and an operational manual. Take a moment to familiarize yourself with these components, as they play a vital role in the tandoor cooking process.
Step Five: Pick the Metal Plate, Sidearm, Skewers, and Operational Manual
Step Six: Unwrap the Covering of Paper and Plastic from the Tandoor
Before you can start using your tandoor oven, you'll need to remove any covering of paper or plastic that protects it during transportation. Carefully unwrap these materials, ensuring not to scratch or damage the oven's surface. Once unwrapped, you'll be able to appreciate the beautiful craftsmanship of the tandoor.
Step Six: Unwrap the Covering of Paper and Plastic from the Tandoor
Congratulations! You have successfully unboxed your tandoor oven, and now you're ready to embark on a culinary adventure like no other. Remember to carefully read the operational manual to understand the oven's features and instructions for safe usage. With your tandoor oven set up and ready to go, get ready to create mouthwatering kebabs, naans, and tandoori delicacies in the comfort of your own home.

2023.06.04 02:22 ka0812 Why is my grass dying again?

Why is my grass dying again?
(NJ) trying to figure out our issue so that the same thing that happened last year doesn’t happen again (especially since we’re having a small backyard wedding in July).
We overseeded at the beginning of the season, along with using a pre emergent. We’ve been watering about an inch a week with sprinklers (moving them to get the whole yard, 2x-3x week for 40 min). Despite this, it looks like the same thing is already starting to happen and super worried we’re going to have a dead yard within the next month or two.
What could be happening and what should we do? Appreciate any thoughts at all!

The Founder Journey: Brett Adcock

Building in Public

If you spend any time on Twitter, you’ve probably seen some of Brett’s viral threads:

https://twitter.com/adcock_brett/status/1618268570928152580?s=20
Plenty of founders “build in public” like this, but Brett may very well be the most successful of them all.
So why would a founder who’s experienced massive success multiple times, and is now building a new startup from 0 → 1 (a time when every second is precious), bother writing detailed and tactical threads on Twitter every week?
When I asked Brett about this, he emphasized how helpful is can be for fundraising (at any stage). If Figure, his new autonomous humanoid robot startup, is successful then he’s “going to need to raise enormous amounts of capital.”
Building in public, or at least building an audience, allows him to get consistent exposure to prospective investors and top-tier talent. In fact, Brett said he’s already hired over a dozen people via Twitter for Figure.
Later on in our chat he hinted that driving positive, founder-led PR (something he’s written about before) was also a factor:

https://preview.redd.it/j6dd4em88t3b1.png?width=1087&format=png&auto=webp&s=aeceed51cabfa4a5fea8e175e785349d35f85298
The bottom line is that people want to feel like they’re part of the ideas that change the world, and the founders who embrace that are more likely to build successful startups.

Tough Times

If a startup is successful, it’s easy to look at it through rose-colored glasses. But a founder’s day to day life is typically overrun with problems and trying to solve them:
https://preview.redd.it/8e2okapa8t3b1.png?width=1087&format=png&auto=webp&s=bd8766ec9bdc01397a082aad4463daf95446a05a
When I pressed him on this, Brett shared that his mindset was not to dwell or fixate on any particular problems — instead, he just treats each problem (large or small) as something else to figure out and solve.
This is what sets great founders apart. Huge problems don’t phase them. They don’t let their startup get into a “death by a thousand cuts” scenario because they’re aware of and actively fixing even the small problems too.
Keeping yourself at an even keel and not letting the ups and downs sidetrack you from your mission is one of the key founder skills that’s not only hard to teach, but also often not emphasized enough to first-time founders before they start building.

Naming a Company

Take a second and think about the startup with the best name you’ve ever come across. What actually makes it a great name?
Successful founders almost never talk about this. In fact, most I know hate naming things — it’s one of my least favorite things to do too. But there is a science to it that can help make it easier. Brett shared his framework on Twitter earlier this year:

https://twitter.com/adcock_brett/status/1613551076665626628?s=20
You can break his framework down into these rules:
  1. Be unique in your category
  2. Use words that can turn into verbs
  3. Limit your syllables
  4. Easy to spell
  5. Easy to pronounce
  6. Domain availability
  7. Trademarking availability
When talking with me Brett shared how, with Figure, it’s a word that is:
  • “Easy to say and easy to use”
  • Unique (in robotics)
  • Taps into the idea of a human figure
  • And is simply “just a really cool word”
It’s easy for founders to overlook naming their startups, or a new product — don’t do that. Your brand can become a massive moat (Google vs. Bing, Uber vs. Lyft, Airbnb vs. Vrbo, etc.).
Take every advantage you can — your startup’s name can be one too.

Fundraising Advice

Brett has raised over $1 billion in his career. Given the current macro climate, I asked Brett for his best advice for founders while fundraising:

https://twitter.com/adcock_brett/status/1589281462242549760?s=20
He advised that founders not neglect the top of their fundraising funnel. Especially early on, before you know what investors will look for from your startup or how they’ll evaluate it (and you, and the market), founders should treat their outreach like “impressions” on social media.
Brett advocates for getting “the story you want to tell” in front of as many people as possible. Track the “impressions”, grow your top of funnel, and see how well (and, more importantly, who / what type of investors) they’re converting through the different steps of the funnel.
When we were fundraising for my last startup, we tracked the following statuses within our fundraising funnel:
  • Investor Identified
  • Intro Identified
  • Intro Made
  • Meeting Scheduled
  • Backchanneling
  • Committed
  • Signed
  • Wired → Remember, you don’t have the money until it’s in the bank!
  • Not a Fit / Passed
Once you’ve identified the types of investors who are moving down the funnel, you can narrow your outreach to find more who fit that mold.
Brett also shared how it is important to understand the mandates and theses that investors have when fundraising. Virtually every fund has verticals and specific sectors that they are looking to invest in. Almost always, your lead investor will be passionate and have a core thesis around your area of focus.

Attacking the Impossible

https://twitter.com/adcock_brett/status/1604501998660771841?s=20
The number one thing that stands out about Brett’s overarching founder journey across his three companies is that he keeps taking on harder and harder challenges.
First, a software-powered hiring marketplace. Then, electric vertical takeoff aircraft and now, autonomous humanoid robots.
After he sold his first company, Vettery, for $100 million it would’ve been so easy for him to go relax on beaches for the rest of his life. At the very least, most founders don’t choose harder problems after success. Brett’s styled his career in the vein of two founders I have considerable admiration for in this regard — Elon Musk and Travis Kalanick.
When I asked him why he chose this path he said that, for him, being a founder isn’t about money — it’s about making a real difference and better future for the world (but that it’s completely fine if, for someone else, it actually is about the money).
He also compared “hard” startups vs. “easy” ones by saying that “hard” startups (aka hard problems to solve) have advantages:
  • Investors want to back big ideas
  • Hard problems make recruiting great people easier
  • I would also add that you’re likely to have less competition
Overall, Brett said “hard” startups are “2-3x easier to build than easy ideas.”

Hypergrowth

As startups experience hypergrowth, new challenges emerge at increasingly quick rates. It’s simply impossible to keep up, and relying on the systems you have in place is key.
Brett shared that the best way to solve hypergrowth-related issues, though, is through growth.
“Growth cures all things” — it’s intoxicating for your team and helps overcome or reduce the impact of problems.
He also pointed out that the biggest factor that allowed him to go from 0 employees to 70 in a short time period was the ability to communicate clearly. And that having singular documents, especially around company culture, that are shared clearly with newly joining team members, can make a big difference.

  • [NEWS] MPI grants request to defer delisting vote... Metro Pacific [MPI 4.37 ▲0.5%; 178% avgVol] disclosed that it granted a request from the MPI Consortium to “defer the vote on the approval of the voluntary delisting” of MPI. The MPI Consortium said that they intend to make the fairness opinion available to MPI shareholders before MPI’s Annual Shareholders’ Meeting “to give the shareholders information on the basis of the Tender Offer Price,” even though the rules only require the MPI Consortium to supply that fairness opinion with the Tender Offer Report. The MPI Consortium said that because the fairness opinion “has not been finalized” yet, and the AGM is early next week, they’re requesting for a deferment of the vote to give the MPI Consortium time to finish the fairness opinion and deliver a new “notice of intent to undertake a Tender Offer” to MPI’s shareholders. MPI granted that request, but did not provide an updated timetable for when any of this would happen.
    • MB: Everything about this story says to me that there’s more going on behind the scenes that we just don’t know about, so I’m not really sure what to make of this. Does it seem incomprehensible to anyone else that a company as sophisticated as MPI could so completely blunder the sequence of events between the fairness opinion and the delisting vote? MPI’s united resolve in the face of the initial pushback to the price signaled to me that they were satisfied with the results of the opinion, but then, suddenly, we were hearing from individual members of the board, not from Chairman Manny Pangilinan, about how the opinion isn’t yet final and that it may change upon further review. This is just my speculation, but it seems obvious to me that the price quoted touched a nerve somewhere in the system. We saw that with April Tan’s all-caps directive to MPI shareholders, and with COL Financial’s weird insistence on emailing AGM details to shareholders – why don’t they do this for every AGM? Did something in the process rub the exchange the wrong way as well? Something feels off the rails about this, but I can’t quite put my finger on it. This doesn’t seem like extra-dimensional chess on the part of MPI to whipsaw public opinion on the way to closing a good deal.
  • [NEWS] Filinvest REIT declares low Q1 dividend... Filinvest REIT [FILRT 4.25 ▲2.9%; 241% avgVol] declared a Q1/23 cash dividend of ₱0.071/share, payable on June 30 to shareholders of record as of June 15. The dividend implies an annualized yield of 6.68% based on the previous closing price. The total amount of the dividend is ₱347 million, sourced from distributable income generated up to April 30, which is 100% of the ₱347 million in distributable income that FILRT reported for the period. Relative to FILRT's IPO price, the dividend increased FILRT's total stock and dividend return to -28.29%, up from its pre-dividend total return of -29.3%. FILRT did not specify if this dividend represents just the first quarter of FILRT’s distributable income, or if it is intended to represent the first four months as the cut-off date would imply.
    • MB: “When someone shows you who they are, believe them.” When is the market going to listen to what FILRT has been screaming for months? This dividend matches FILRT’s all-time low, confirms that the tiny Q4/22 dividend was not a mistake or fluke, and yet the market trades FILRT like it’s the twin brother of AREIT. Quarter-on-quarter, the dividend is the same. It matches the low. But this dividend is 39% lower from a year-on-year perspective.
  • [NEWS] MREIT signs MOU to acquire 7 new towers from Megaworld... MREIT [MREIT 14.00 ▲1.4%; 2% avgVol] signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with its parent company, Megaworld [MEG 1.99 ▼2.5%; 511% avgVol], to possibly acquire seven “grade A office assets” with a combined gross leasable area (GLA) of 150,000 square meters. MREIT said that the assets in question, located in Taguig, Iloilo, and Davao, generated approximately ₱1.2 billion in rental income last year and have a combined occupancy rate of 94%. MREIT said that it hopes to sign definitive agreements for the translation in Q3 of this year. The injection would increase MREIT’s GLA by 46%.
    • MB: MREIT pulled up short of mentioning the deal’s total value, but we can very loosely estimate the value by using the smaller deal that MREIT completed earlier this year as a guide. With that transaction, MREIT closed on 44,567 GLA of office space in Taguig and Iloilo for ₱5.3 billion, which is about ₱119,000/sqm. Here, if we multiply that value by the 150,500 GLA that MREIT estimates for this package, we end up with a value of ₱17.9 billion. According to my data, MREIT has about ₱13.4 billion of “buying power” between its available equity (₱1.1 billion) and debt (₱12.3 billion). Unless MREIT is able to consider the properties to be acquired as part of its deposited properties, and then use that additional debt quota to buy the assets, it would seem as though MREIT is going to have to do some kind of equity raise to increase its public float to remain about the 33.33% public float minimum threshold.
  • [NOTES] Quick takes from around the market...
    • DFNN [DFNN 2.92 ▼1.0%; 175% avgVol] [link] finally overcame the limitations of archaic accountancy to submit its FY22 Annual Report. DFNN reported an FY22 net income of ₱82 million, which is a 122% increase from the ₱368 million net loss it reported the previous year. DFNN attributed the “tremendous turnaround” to its successful equity restructure, and to “the continuous increase in sales and the launch of numerous tailored interactive technology platforms.”
      • MB Quick Take: The press release sets off all sorts of alarms in my head in terms of the repeated mentioning of the “residual effects of Covid”, and the overall “to be fair you need to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty” tone of DFNN toward its own business model, but I can’t deny that I like DFNN’s overall positioning in terms of its industry (gaming is in demand), its low overhead, and its potential for growth with a software product line that has a low/negligible marginal cost for production. I’m just glad they figured out QuickBooks.
    • Fruitas [FRUIT 1.20 ▼2.4%; 223% avgVol] [link] acquired Fly Kitchen Inc (FKI) to “accelerate the growth of its cloud kitchen business”. FRUIT said that it signed an agreement to buy 100% of FKI’s outstanding shares, giving FRUIT access to FKI’s inventory, recipes, and leasehold interests in four kitchens.
      • MB Quick Take: A cloud kitchen is a centralized food preparation site that is like a restaurant but with no public-facing components. No cashier, no seating, no take-out window. It’s designed to integrate with food delivery apps. It’s valid to ask whether the cloud kitchen model is as important as it was back in the COVID Years when in-person dining was restricted by brutal public health orders, but my own anecdotal experience is that my new consumption habits from the COVID Years have been sticky. I’m doing way more of everything online. Cloud kitchens aren’t going anywhere (IMHO).
    • Vulcan Industrial [VUL 1.24 ▲2.5%; 1271% avgVol] [link] was suspended by the PSE for violating the 20% minimum public float requirement as a result of the backdoor listing of the East Coast Mineral Resources Company. The PSE said that VUL’s stock will remain suspended until VUL complies with the 20% public float rule, and that VUL has until November 30th of this year to fix the problem or face automatic delisting.
      • MB Quick Take: This is a huge part of why I hate these landmine subscription agreements. This liability sat on VUL’s books for nearly three years, and shareholders (who are now stuck in this trade for the foreseeable future) had no reasonable expectation of this happening after the lapse of the due diligence period back in 2021. I don’t think there’s a substantial risk of VUL delisting (it’s crazy if they didn’t already plan for this), but this probably caught a bunch of traders that hopped into this stock by surprise. ₱28 million in VUL stock changed hands yesterday before the suspension was announced after-hours.
  • [DUMB STUFF] I live for this...
    • The DFNN Annual Report contains some hilarious metadata in the PDF. Most notably, the line: Greetings to #ITnet members biolator VeRvE^ and all DALNet peoples...i Hate u All. Credit to Red Baboy on Twitter for this amazing find!

🐻 Explaining the NFT bear market
https://preview.redd.it/tbviy7b1e23b1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=d89d2870183ccf31b43d330a13e71b9c17875f44

Your cheat sheet on... NFT bear market

NFT space may seem like a jigsaw puzzle. NFT Cheats is a series of newsletters that helps you put the pieces together.
NFT Cheats by Rarible is a newsletter that explores the very pillars the NFT space stands on. Think of those as the NFT World-bearing turtles (or Apes).
It’s called NFT Cheats because each newsletter is designed as a cheat sheet that brings you up to speed on a given niche within the NFT space.
NFT bear market is the third subject in the series. The previous issues covered Historical NFTs and NFT Security. To put together a cheat sheet on today’s topic, we talked to wale.swoosh, researcher-in-residence at Azuki and a self-described ‘Director of Threads’ on NFT Twitter.
Wale got into NFTs in early 2021 after hearing about them on Gary Vee’s Instagram. He joined Twitter a few months after that to become a better trader as he realized that NFT Twitter plays a big role in that. Wale quickly fell in love with the community, and started sharing his own thoughts on the timeline, quickly becoming one of the most popular NFT content writers known for his in-depth threads.
DO NOT treat any of the information below as financial advice, and do your own research (DYOR) before buying into any asset.
The interview has been edited and condensed, meaning the content below is attributed to the guest expert, but shouldn’t be treated as a direct quote.

What does a bear market mean for NFTs?

A bear market in Web3 is usually marked by a general flattening of interest in the space. Fewer new people join, and some people who were in Web3 leave.
That leads to a crash in prices, teams stop developing, and the sentiment in the space is generally bad because everyone is fighting for the crumbs of a shrinking pie.
If you look at it historically, bear markets are always caused by an external macro influence. We’ve had several bear markets in crypto since the industry emerged, and this seems to be the first major bear market for NFTs specifically since they hit the mainstream in 2021.
The current bear market started around Q2 2022, and of course we just can’t know when it will end exactly. But I'm positive that it will be followed by a bull cycle.
During this bear market, we’ve seen projects shed around 70-90% of their floor prices. At this point, it might be hard to believe that certain NFTs were trading at 3-10x their current floor price.
Moonbirds' historical floor price, as shown by NFTpricefloor.com
There are several reasons behind that grand fall. First, a lot of people have simply left the space. According to recent numbers, there are around 7,000 active traders left. When you have a few thousand people creating and trading maybe millions of NFTs… the supply/demand ratio gets crazy. When the demand is low, the floor price will follow.
Projects themselves also play a role in this. Without naming any specific ones, we have many teams that have made major strategic mistakes in recent months. In fact, I don't think there are blue chips anymore in the space, outside of the top 3-4 most successful collections.
Then we had ETH volatility, the memecoin season, Blur experimenting with some trading mechanics — all of that have also not been good for the floor prices across the board.
The most important thing for the NFT space at the moment is to get more people in, because when you have 7k traders, it's really hard to run a successful project. Right now, holders are basically playing hot potato with each other. As to how we might onboard more people — that's a whole other topic.

NFTs are dead. Long live NFTs!

People who say NFTs are dead are partly right.
Most projects are indeed dead or are in the process of dying. 99% of them won't come out of this bear market because they just don't have what it takes. Those who will come out, however, will come out stronger.
Having said that, NFTs as a technology will never ever die because it brings so much innovation to areas like gaming and digital ownership, for example.

Metas, or why there's always a "shiny thing" in NFTs

To better understand the nature of the NFT market, it's useful to understand the role metas play in it.
Meta is a certain pattern that we see emerge (most of the time suddenly) and disappear (that also tends to happen quite quickly) in the NFT space.
A meta can last anywhere from a few days to months. A good example would be the open edition meta we saw a few months ago started by Jack Butcher’s Checks. Once it became clear that Checks are doing good, we saw all those other projects doing open editions, mostly following the same pattern/concept…
At the time, the majority of the content on the NFT Twitter timeline was about open editions. Initially, when a new meta emerges, it starts to generate/feed off hype— everyone wants to be a part of this new exciting thing, and ultimately make some money from it (be it trading, engagement farming, or both).
It’s hard to put a finger on what exactly makes a meta pop off, but once it gets going, it spreads fast.
Wale's thread on metas (click on the pic to read)
You have to realize that sooner or later, every meta always disappears. The people who are invested in it often think (or want you to think) that it’s here forever, but in reality there's always the next shiny thing a few weeks later that people will go chasing after, forgetting about the one that preceded it.
That being said, the OG projects that start metas—like Checks, for example—often keep at least some of their relevance, while most other unoriginal projects who were just trying to copy them vanish.
Besides metas, there’s also culture. Culture is a more fundamental kind of thing. Sometimes it's hard to differentiate: is this new thing more transitory and based on short-term attention, or is it here to actually stay, setting a new standard for the space for years to come?
There weren’t many events that actually revolutionized the industry, like what Yuga Labs did when they airdropped the serums for the MAYC collection, the distribution trick many projects adapted later on. But those usually come around in a more subtle manner.
So normally when every week you have people saying “oh, that's the new thing, it will change the space forever for years to come” and are super vocal about it, it’s almost never the case.
The attention span in this space is incredibly short, and people tend to put most of their attention into things that are ‘meta’ at the moment.
Will traditional brands kick off the next bull?
There are a few examples of traditional brands doing a good job with their web3 initiatives, Gucci and Adidas specifically come to mind. But you and I would probably have a hard time naming 10 successful web2 companies who came into the web3 space, so we haven't seen that unfold just yet.
When it comes to getting new people into NFTs, major brands could be one way to do it — when people see a trusted brand, they might want to get involved, as they’re more likely to trust a brand they already know.
It’s a two-way street: when more people in general will get interested in NFTs, web2 brands will likely have an easier time onboarding people as well.
It also depends on which audience the specific brand wants to address. When you want to get into the hardcore NFT community, you better understand web3 culture and be part of it so your activation doesn't feel forced—the infamous Pepsi and Budweiser exchange on Twitter became a meme for a reason. But at the same time, as more legacy brands will come in, the focus might shift away from the core NFT community to retail users.
And when more retail comes in and NFT becomes more adopted as a technology, it is likely that the end user won’t realize that they are interacting with the blockchain or even that they’re buying an NFT. It will be more subtle, and the majority of retail users probably won't be creating wallets and trading NFTs on OpenSea/BluRarible per se.
Nike’s .swoosh is another good example of a web2 x web3 crossover—when you sign up there, you don't even know that you are minting an NFT. I think that's a good approach to bringing more people in, because right now the blockchain infrastructure is still very complicated for new people.
At the moment, if you know nothing about web3, blockchain or crypto in general, the learning curve is just too steep: you have to go through the process of creating your own wallet and writing down a 24-word seed phrase, buying and swapping tokens, sometimes bridging—all that just to get an NFT you want. So in regards to mainstream adoption, it will be crucial to build platforms, infrastructure and tools that will be intuitive even for people who are not crypto NFT natives.
Is it a good time to enter the NFT space?
It's a good time to take your time.
Let’s be honest: If you’re coming into the NFT space right now, there's a very high chance that you will immediately leave. The bear market vibes are really difficult to handle for a newcomer.
When you go on NFT Twitter these days, there’s so much toxicity, shilling and hate going on… It's really terrible. Then you have short term metas where some people make money and tweet about it nonstop while the silent majority loses money. Of course if you're a newcomer and most of your timeline is talking about how this thing is pumping and they’ve already made 100x on it, you’ll want to join in. The meta will then move on, and most likely you’ll lose money. I think that's driving a lot of people away from our space.
But a bear market is actually a great opportunity to learn about NFTs. For me, the ideal way to start in the NFT space is to make a Twitter account, and get involved in NFT Twitter by following some trusted people and just spending time reading their takes, maybe participating in some discussion. And then when you feel comfortable about what you know and feel like you can make informed decisions, then maybe start buying your first NFT or minting your first NFTs (always with the money you can afford to lose).

As for choosing which projects to join, I recommend looking at the team behind it. That’s what it is all about in Web 3. When you have a team that's emerged into the space and is actually building for the community, that's a massive green flag. Invest in people you personally believe in. To me, the team is way more important than the art/roadmap because if you don't have a team that's able to execute, you can have the best roadmap but the project won't be successful.
But please remember that in web3 it can all change within weeks or even days. This space is moving extremely fast, and that hasn’t changed even during the bear market.
And if you're already in the NFT space, it’s a good time to build. When you have a project is a good time to build in silence so you are ready for the next bull market—and I am positive that it will happen.

2023.05.30 18:18 primal___scream Tips for selling

Hello! We are looking to sell our current travel trailer and are looking for tips on the best way to sell it.
Is selling to a dealer better? Or is a private seller better? RV trader? Camping World, etc?
Short background we have a 2017 Lance 2285, and it's financed, so we don't have the title, and we would like to sell it.
Just looking for some advice from anyone who has sold one.

Hangul for English: The Real Deal (HETRD, 한글 ᅗᅥᆯ 잉글맀: ᅂᆞ 릐ᇐ 듸ᇐ)
Original blog post
Hangul is a truly unique writing system in that it was created by humans almost from a blank slate, instead of evolving from an older pre-existing script. The script was created by King Sejong and his ministers of the Joseon dynasty of Korea in 1446 to improve literacy, being designed to represent the Korean language in a far more intuitive way than the pre-existing hanja (Chinese characters)-based system ever could. Letters for related sounds are derived from base letterforms in a highly systematic manner, making Hangul well-known for being incredibly easy to learn. In theory, this would also make the script capable of representing every possible sound in every human language, including English.
But what would it take to write English with Hangul in the most concise way possible?
To find out, I had a look at the archaic Hangul letters (yethangul, 옛한글), which have a much wider selection of letters and letter combinations for representing Korean and Chinese as spoken in the 1400s. These include consonant clusters such as ᄹ /st/ and letters for some fricatives like ᅗ (/ɸ/) and ᄫ (/β/), which will come in handy for writing English sounds that do not exist in Korean. Unicode offers full support for these archaic letters via the 'Hangul Jamo', 'Hangul Jamo Extended-A' and 'Hangul Jamo Extended-B' character blocks. The only catch? Korean language input methods generally do not support these characters, but we'll get to that in a moment.
Also, this isn't the only time that someone's tried writing English with Hangul - plenty of other individuals have had a go at adapting Hangul for English, but this adaptation is the only one out there which is based on how Hangul is actually used in the real world and not as a substitution cipher for the alphabet or something else entirely, which is why I'll refer to my adaptation as 'Hangul for English: The Real Deal', or HETRD for short!
Note: This article contains archaic Hangul letters which will not display properly without fonts that support it well, such as Noto Sans CJK KR or Noto Serif CJK KR.

Adaptation process

Adapting Hangul for English was a notable challenge, since it was originally not designed to write languages with lots of fricatives in them, such as English. However, with a bit of work, it's more than capable of representing English in a phonetically consistent manner.
A Hangul syllable is written in a single square block in a similar manner to Chinese characters, which can be divided into 3 parts: the initial consonants (I) on the top left side, medial vowels (M) on either the right or centre, and the final consonants (F) at the bottom. Here's a picture depicting the ways in which letters can be arranged:

Hangul syllable structure
In Korean Hangul orthography, there are 19 initial consonants, 21 medial vowels and 28 final consonants. That seems like a lot of consonants to play around with, until one realises that:
  • Korean Hangul does not have letters for the following sounds: /f/ (as in 'fun'), /v/ (as in 'van'), /θ/ (as in 'thing'), /ð/ (as in 'the'), /z/ (as in 'zoo'), /ʃ/ (as in 'share') and /ʒ/ (as in 'vision').
  • Korean orthography does not distinguish between the /ɹ/ and /l/ sounds: ㄹ is pronounced with an /l/ sound only at the end of a syllable, and /ɹ/ elsewhere.
  • Some of the consonants cannot be final consonants.

Consonants

As usual, the majority of Korean Hangul consonants can be assigned rather easily to their English counterparts: ᄏ /k/, ᄃ /d/, ᄉ /s/, ᄀ /g/, ᄒ /h/ and so on. Likewise, if there's no initial consonant, the ieung null consonant letter is used as a filler: ᄋ = /∅/. Hence, the syllable /a/ on its own is 아, which is the vowel for /a/ ᅡ with the ieung ᄋ before it.
For both bilabial fricatives /f/ and /v/, let's co-opt the archaic letters for /ɸ/ ᅗ and /β/ ᄫ respectively, since these sounds are incredibly similar to each other, almost indistinguishable to an untrained ear. They also pair nicely with the corresponding stop sounds /p/ ᄑ and /b/ ᄇ, being basically these letters plus the bottom circle of the /h/ letter ᄒ.
The letters for /θ/ and /ð/ shall be the letters for /t/ and /d/ with the null consonant ieung ᄋ to the left: /θ/ = ᅊ and /ð/ = ᅂ. Both of these letters are used in some Korean-English dictionaries to mark their respective sounds.
/z/ can be represented with the archaic letter ᅀ, which was etymologically derived from ᄉ by adding an additional horizontal stroke at the bottom.
As for /ʃ/, I'll re-purpose the doubled consonant ᄊ from modern Korean since it can be placed as an initial and final consonant. /ʒ/ will just be ᅈ, or /d͡ʒ/ ᄌ with the ieung ᄋ to the left in the same vein as ᅊ and ᅂ.
The letter ᄅ on its own shall now solely represent the 'r' sound /ɹ/ (as in 'run'). To write the 'l' sound, I'll adapt the traditional Korean way of doing so by doubling the ᄅ letter. In Korean orthography, this can only be done between vowels: /ɔli/ = 얼리. But what if we want to write /l/ before or after a vowel on its own? No problem, there's a doubled version ᄙ which can be both an initial and final consonant: /la/ = ᄙᅡ and /ɔl/ = 어ᇐ.
  • /f/ = ᅗ (as in 'fun')
  • /v/ = ᄫ (as in 'vine')
  • /θ/ = ᅊ (as in 'think')
  • /ð/ = ᅂ (as in 'this')
  • /z/ = ᅀ (as in 'zoo')
  • /ʃ/ = ᄊ (as in 'shop')
  • /ʒ/ = ᅈ (as in 'azure')
  • /ɹ/ = ᄅ (as in 'run')
  • /l/ = ᄙ (as in 'laugh')

Consonant clusters

Unlike regular Korean Hangul, the Hangul Jamo Unicode blocks offer a far greater variety of pre-defined consonant clusters, many of which can be used for English as-is.

In initial position

  • /dɹ/ = ᅞ (as in 'drive')
  • /sp/ = ᄺ (as in 'space')
  • /sm/ = ᄱ (as in 'small')
  • /st/ = ᄹ (as in 'stand')
  • /sn/ = ᄮ (as in 'snow')
  • /sk/ = ᄸ (as in 'scan')

In final position - special cases

These ones have been slightly redefined since they would be much more useful for English as shown:
  • /ks/~/gz/ = ᆪ (as in 'box' and 'example', literally /g/ + /s/)
  • /sp/ = ᇪ (as in 'wasp', literally /s/ + /b/)
  • /st/ = ᇨ (as in 'last', literally /s/ + /d/)
  • /sk/ = ᇧ (as in 'task', literally /s/ + /g/)

In final position - the rest

  • /ps/ = ퟺ (as in 'chips')
  • /bs/ = ᆹ (as in 'tabs')
  • /mb/ = ᇜ (as in 'bomb')
  • /mbs/ = ퟡ (as in 'bombs')
  • /mn/ = ퟞ (as in 'damn')
  • /ms/ = ᇝ (as in 'clams')
  • /ds/ = ퟐ (as in 'sods')
  • /nt/ = ᇉ (as in 'ant')
  • /nd/ = ᇆ (as in 'and')
  • /ns/ = ᇇ (as in 'plans')
  • /nt͡ʃ/ = ퟌ (as in 'bunch')
  • /ŋk/ = ᇯ (as in 'bank')
  • /ŋs/ = ᇱ (as in 'things')
  • /st/ = ퟱ (alternative form of ᇨ)
  • /ɹp/ = ᆵ (as in 'burp')
  • /ɹb/ = ᆲ (as in 'herb')
  • /ɹbs/ = ᇓ (as in 'herbs')
  • /ɹv/ = ᇕ (as in 'curve')
  • /ɹm/ = ᆱ (as in 'term')
  • /ɹms/ = ᇒ (as in 'terms')
  • /ɹt/ = ᆴ (as in 'alert')
  • /ɹd/ = ᇎ (as in 'hard')
  • /ɹn/ = ᇍ (as in 'torn')
  • /ɹk/ = ᇘ (as in 'work')
  • /ɹg/ = ᆰ (as in 'iceberg')
  • /ɹgs/ = ᇌ (as in 'icebergs')
  • /ɹs/ = ᆳ (as in 'purse')
  • /ɹʃ/ = ᇖ (as in 'harsh')
  • /lk/ = ퟗ (as in 'bulk')
Still, not all consonant clusters found in English are adequately represented in the Hangul Jamo Unicode blocks. Given that English can have clusters of up to 3 consonants in both initial and final position ('strengths' is a notorious example), how can these be represented accurately?
My solution to this issue is based on how English loanwords are written in Korean hangul:

The null vowel 'ᅳ'

This is basically a vowel letter that has no pronunciation - it's just there to allow you to carry one or more consonants in a single character. For instance, /pɹa/ would be written as 프라 (not 'ᄑ라'), /stɹa/ is ᄹᅳ라, /gla/ is 글라 and /s/ on its own would simply be 스. All remaining consonants not in a Hangul syllable must end with the null vowel: 어ᇐ트 is /ɔlt/ (not '어ᇐᄐ').
The consonants ᅊ, ᅂ and ᅈ can only be an initial consonant - to put it as a final consonant, it needs to be in a separate syllable block with the null vowel: /θɔ/ 'thaw' = ᅊᅥ but /ɔθ/ 'auth' = 어ᅊᅳ, for instance.
  • ᅳ = /∅/
In Korean, the vowel letter 'ㅡ' (pronounced /ɯ/ in Korean and romanised as eu) is commonly used to write initial and final consonant clusters from English loanwords, as in the word '스트레스' (seuteureseu), from the English 'stress'. (In HETRD, 'stress' would be written as ᄹᅳ렛, half the length of the Korean version.)

Vowels

Vowels were also an intriguing challenge, since English has much more vowel sounds than Korean. However, by composing the base Hangul vowel letters together, it's possible to write almost every English vowel sound with its own unique symbol.
4 of the vowels have clear English equivalents. Although /ɛ/ is the modern Korean pronunciation of ᅦ, which originally represented a diphthong whose pronunciation has been lost to time, there were no more effective ways to write the /ɛ/ sound in Hangul, so this will do.
  • ᅡ = /a/~/ʌ/ (as in 'fun' and 'but')
  • ᅦ = /ɛ/ (as in 'bed')
  • ᅵ = /ɪ/ (as in 'bid')
  • ᅮ = /ʊ/ (as in 'foot' and 'look')
As for ᅥ, I'll get it to represent /ɔ/ since its actual pronunciation leans strongly towards the 'o' sound in 'dot' and 'shop'. While this is contrary to its typical transliteration as /ʌ/ in many Korean pronunciation guides, I consider this arrangement to make much more sense. For ᅩ, its actual pronunciation strongly leans towards the diphthong sound /oʊ/ in 'load' and 'coat', so that's what it shall be as well.
And for the schwa sound /ə/, let's use the archaic arae a vowel ᆞ, since /ə/ is most likely to be its pronunciation back when it was used. It's also the simplest vowel to write, which is fitting as /ə/ is the most common vowel in English. In writing, the arae a is placed in the same position as the horizontal vowels ᅮ, ᅩ and ᅳ: /də/ = ᄃᆞ and /əd/ = ᄋᆞᆮ.
  • ᅥ = /ɔ/ (as in 'lot')
  • ᅩ = /oʊ/ (as in 'load')
  • ᆞ = /ə/ (as in '-tion' and the last vowel of 'comma')
Together with the null vowel ᅳ, these 7 core vowel letters can then be used to expand the repertoire to cover the remaining singular vowel sounds in a largely intuitive manner.
  • ힹ = /æ/ (as in 'fan' and 'band')
  • ᅴ = /iː/ (as in 'bead')
  • ힼ = /ɔː/ (as in 'bought')
  • ᆕ = /uː/ (as in 'pool')
  • ᅢ = /aɪ/ (as in 'high'. Literally /a/ ᅡ + /ɪ/ ᅵ, the original 1440s pronunciation)
  • ᅶ = /aʊ/ (as in 'now'. Used ᅩ so that it pairs up nicely with its inverse, /wa/ ᅪ)
  • ᅦ이 = /eɪ/ (as in 'say'. This is the only diphthong that needs to be spelt with a digraph)
  • ᅬ = /ɔɪ/ (as in 'toy')
  • ᆝ = /ɪə/ (as in 'ear')
  • ᆠ = /ʊə/ (as in 'tour')

Iotated and W- vowels

Hangul has special iotated vowel and letter combinations to indicate diphthongs starting with /j/ or /w/. For all of the /j-/ vowels, an additional dot stroke is added to the original vowel, e.g.ᅣ for /ja/, based on the letterᅡ /a/. For the /w-/ vowels, the letter ᅮ or ᅩ is placed before the vowel in question - ᅮ is always used before /ɔ/ ᅥ and /ɛ/ ᅦ whereas ᅩ is always used for /a/ ᅡ and /aɪ/ ᅢ, as in Korean orthography.
In HETRD, these have been re-used as follows:
  • ᅣ = /ja/~/jʌ/ (as in 'young')
  • ᅨ = /jɛ/ (as in 'yes')
  • ᅧ = /jɔ/ (as in 'your')
  • ᆢ = /jə/~/jɜ/ (as in 'yearn')
  • ᅤ = /jaɪ/ (as in 'yikes')
  • ᅸ = /jaʊ/ (as in 'Yao')
  • ᅨ이 = /jeɪ/ (as in 'yay')
  • ᆈ = /jɔɪ/ (as in 'yoink')
  • ᅭ = /joʊ/ (as in 'yogurt')
  • ᅪ = /wa/ (as in 'what')
  • ᅰ = /wɛ/ (as in 'when')
  • ᅱ = /wɪ/ (as in 'win')
  • ᅯ = /wɔ/ (as in 'wander')
  • ᅫ = /waɪ/ (as in 'why')
  • ᅰ이 = /weɪ/ (as in 'way')

Writing /j/ and /w/ before other vowels

Still, the above method does not work for all vowels: for instance, there is no iotated version of /æ/ ힹ in Unicode Hangul, and it would be impractical to put ᅮ before /oʊ/ ᅩ due to the 2 dot strokes clashing with each other. For these cases, let's pull out 2 more archaic Hangul letters from the dead and make them our letters for /j/ and /w/!
For /j/, let's use ᅇ, which was meant to represent a tense 'Y'-like sound - pretty fitting. And for /w/, there's ᄝ, which originally represented instances where the archaic Chinese initial /m/ ᄆ had become /w/ by King Sejong's time in Sino-Korean words like 文 and 舞, pronounced wén and in modern Mandarin Chinese but mun and mu in modern Korean.
  • /j/ = ᅇ (as in 'yeet')
  • /w/ = ᄝ (as in 'wood')

Numerals

For this orthography, let's use the Chinese numerals (〇, 一, 二 etc) since they blend in well with the overall Hangul aesthetic, sharing the same square structure as Hangul syllables.
Cool - now for a quick summary of all the letters!

Syllable structure

Hangul syllables are written from left to right. To read HETRD, it is useful to think of it as a stream of letters that happen to be formed into syllable blocks - a syllable may be divided into up to 3 parts depending on the available consonant clusters:
[Initial consonant(s)] - [Hangul syllable with initial + final consonants that fit] - [remaining final consonant(s)]
Some examples are as follows:
  • /noʊ/ (no) = [ᄂ ᅩ] = 노
  • /sam/ (some) = [ᄉ ᅡ ᄆ] =

Old Hangul Input Method (IME)

To type HETRD easily, I created a browser-based web app called the Old Hangul Input Method, which can input all the required letters in the Hangul Jamo Unicode blocks with great ease. It uses the standard Korean dubeolsik keyboard layout and expands it further to cover all of the archaic Hangul letters.
https://preview.redd.it/r0c3qfgwa03b1.png?width=1146&format=png&auto=webp&s=3913d3c0375c9a609ba231c56f517e5f1c823474

NPD: BOSS DD-200
Swapped out my mxr carbon copy for the dd-200. So far, I’m loving it. I mainly bought it for the presets. I loved the carbon copy, but thought it be nice to have a few extra presets at my disposal. Currently have an analog preset dialed to sound just like my cc, a slap back from the tape setting, a classic boss digital setting and a reverse. The knobs definitely make it super user friendly, as I am not a fan of “menu diving”.
I can (somewhat) confidently say that this iteration of my board will not be changing for the foreseeable future.
