2023.03.28 10:12 arfy8820 Thoughts on the Tecsun PL-880 vs the XHData D-808

So, as I eagerly await my new xhdata d-808 to replace my now sold PL-880, just some thoughts and a questionn or two. Yes, i briefly owned the d-808 before, but had some issues at first which I now feel I have workarounds for, and/or realize that the value for money makes the quirks livable with.
Things I'll miss from the 880. * No muting while tuning. Related, the tuning dial was amazingly smooth on the 880. * The line out jack for recording. * An acceptionally clean headphone output, as well. * An advantage of the larger size, the ergonomics of the keypad.
Things I'm looking forward to on the d-808. * A much smaller whip antenna. The one on the 880 was something like 90 CM long! * Both the FM and AM sensitivity on the d-808 is amazing for the size. It seems that even though the 880 is larger, its ferrite length isn't any bigger, and/or its AM sensitivity just doesn't seem any better than the d-808. Can anyone confirm this who knows about the internals of either or both radios? * The sheer portability of the d-808 compared to the 880.
I've also noticed while waching videos of the d-808 that the muting while tuning on shortwave isn't nearly as bad as I remembered it during my brief time with it before. On AM though, its still quite annoying, with the long fade in after tuning to the frequency while scanning with the dial or the up/down buttons. Anyway, if anyone wants to chime in on anything I've mentioned here, feel free. More or less thinking outloud, but am hoping to read other people's thoughts who have had either or both radios.

2023.03.28 10:07 zenocrate Do you need something proofread? I am a native American English speaker, and I'm happy to proofread documents (free of charge)

Hello!
I'd be delighted to help anyone learning English with editing any important documents (cover letters, resumes, CVs, personal statements, etc.) for fluency and correctness. American English is my first language, and I have a strong mastery of English vocabulary and grammar.1
Feel free to either DM me or comment on this post if you're interested. If you want me to edit a document, I'd probably ask you to share a google doc with me and I'll use the suggestion tool to recommend any changes. My suggestions will be limited to grammar and style, as I won't have enough background to alter the substance of the document.
1 I achieved a perfect score on the Critical Reading section of the SAT in 2008 (99th percentile), and a perfect score on the Verbal Reasoning section of the GRE in 2016 (also 99th percentile). (Can provide proof to mods if necessary)

2023.03.28 10:06 _jgt [HIRING][REMOTE] Haskell programmer

About Supercede

Supercede builds industry-leading risk placement and analytics software for the reinsurance industry. We are a globally distributed team. We are looking for another Haskell developer to help us build delightful software that our clients will love.
We favour asynchronous communication, and try to hire "managers of one". We don't do daily stand-ups. We don't count your hours. We don't work weekends. We support each other in working and learning. We prefer responsibility and autonomy, and eschew micromanagement.
We work calmly and diligently, while shipping iterations frequently.

About the tech

Our core product is a monolithic web application written in ~160,000 lines of Haskell, predominantly with the Yesod framework. We also leverage the Servant framework to offer our clients an API.
Our infrastructure is written in Nix, and we deploy our application to a network of NixOS machines. We avoid silos — each of us takes ownership over the application which includes developing and maintaining features end-to-end, UI to deployment (it's not a problem if you aren't great at UI work — this is mostly a backend role), so you'll need to get comfortable with Nix if you aren't already.
We use the Event Sourcing pattern to model the history of our data and how it changes over time. We project our state into PostgreSQL and use Redis for more ephemeral state and caching.
Our application also includes ~21,000 lines of Elm code, but we are gradually phasing this out. Elm is wonderful, but our product just doesn't need SPA capability. We are finding our project to be more sustainable and easier to test by following a typical server-side rendered PRG pattern.
Two Wednesdays per month are Research Day. Every programmer is free to not do chores for the product, and instead investigate/learn/play with whatever technology they choose. Want to learn more about type-level programming? Property-based testing? Expert systems? Go right ahead! The other two Wednesdays are Open Source Day. Someone needs to help maintain the open source libraries we rely on. Might as well be us.
In short:

About you

Technical proficiency aside, we need you to be self-motivated and be able to manage your own time. We get stuff done at a sustainable pace.
As most communication is asynchronous, you'll need to be an excellent communicator. This mostly means you need to think and write clearly, whether that's in code, or in English. We expect you to describe your approach to a given problem in writing before diving into an implementation, and you'll need to collaborate with colleagues on your design.
You don't need to speak excellent English — we have several colleagues working with us successfully who don't speak English natively. By the way, we'll pay for your language lessons.
You'll need to be a good engineer. We aren't looking for cathedral architects or type-system astronauts. We need small, simple, robust design. It's always better if you can make our project smaller, faster to compile, and easier to maintain so more junior colleagues remain effective.
On this team we are kind. We're kind to each other socially, and we're kind when reviewing and collaborating on work. We're diverse and multicultural, and respectful of each other's background. You'll need to be kind.
If you're interested in working with us, please write to me at [email protected].

2023.03.28 10:04 maximusaemilius Empyrean Iris: 1-138: Aliens Explaining Emotions (by Charlie Star)

FYI, this is a story COLLECTION. Lots of standalones technically. So, you can basically start to read at any chapter, no pre-read of the other chapters needed technically (other than maybe getting better descriptions of characters than: Adam Vir=human, Krill=antlike alien, Sunny=tall alien, Conn=telepathic alien). The numbers are (mostly) only for organization of posts and continuity.

A lot of my academic counterparts had been asking me about the scope of human emotional range. This may seem like a confusing question to humans, seeing as that emotion is an every second part of their lives, but there are many species in the galaxy who are only limited to a restrictive subset of emotions including fear, contentment, anger, happiness and interest. I, and other scientists have taken the liberty of studying human emotion, as well as human studies on the matter, and come up with 29 emotions on the human emotion spectrum. I took the liberty of asking a human to describe just what these things feel like, and when they occur and will try to explain it as well as I can.
Admiration: The human categorized this as a subset of awe but ONLY for people. This involves being impressed, and the desire to BE more like another person, or the desire to be closer to that other person. I'd consider this some function of social integration for humans an instinctive way of modeling proper behavior. Admiration is usually towards a figure in authority or position of power a parent, friend, icon, or celebrity.
Adoration: Not to be confused with admiration, adoration does not necessarily involved the desire to become like that other person, but it does involve the desire to be around them, to make them happy. Anything the target person does, no matter what, is seen as exciting, cute or admirable in whatever combination. Humans will generally do anything for someone they adore. Adoration can be for animals, small children, a mate, or someone famous.
Amusement: I have learned to personally experience this one myself. It is an extreme requirement if you are to spend any time with humans as it is the single most important emotion for social bonding. I would say it is similar to happiness, but much more physical. It is almost a cognitive joy taken from a specific phrase or situation that manifests as a bubbling in the stomach and chest. It is a pleasant feeling.
Anxiety: Just imagine feeling like a boulder will drop out of the sky to crush you at any moment, or the impending feeling of knowing the world is going to end, but you don't know when. I would consider this a subset of fear, but less intense, more chronic, long lasting and physically catastrophic.
Awe: Awe is an extreme emotion which manifests with the widening of the eyes, and the mouth. This is a response to unbelievable or amazing situation. Humans describe it as a feeling of the chest expanding, may include tingling or the piloerection of hair on the skin. This emotion can be completely overwhelming and may manifest when the human understanding is stretched to capacity, and the brain is having trouble comprehending what it saw. If you are new around humans, be ready to experience that a lot yourself whenever they do something, because they will deal a lot of amazing stuff you won’t imagine.
Awkwardness: is a motion manifested when something socially inappropriate happens. Awkwardness is a way of letting others know that something socially unacceptable just happened. This may include saying something insensitive at the wrong time, like asking a fat woman if she's pregnant only to realize she isn't. The modern use of the word Cringe is a subset of awkwardness that is more intense and usually involves a person or situation being EXTREMELY awkward so much so that it causes a person to cringe. Includes a tightening in the stomach and chest manifesting in a human making their body smaller and curling towards the center like someone is about to hit them. The awkwardness is so bad it is physically painful.
Boredom: When a human is lacking in cognitive stimulation. The brain will try to find something to interest itself and may lead to frustration or anxiety as the brain gets frustrated over the lack of stimuli. May also manifest as a flat affect or staring off into space.
Calmness / Contentment: A limbo emotion suspended between all other emotions. It is not happy, it is not sad, it is the closest emotion to the state of just existing in which my, and most other species spend most of their time. Humans do not often spend time here.
Confusion: An emotion that is common in many species, when cognition cannot figure out what is happening. It often manifests in humans with head tilting, frowning and looking around to gather more information.
Craving: This is a want, but to an extreme. A craving turns a want into a need to the point where the human finds it hard to pay attention to anything else. It is very common when it comes to food, but can also involve a craving for attention, company or other emotions.
Disgust: An emotion you do not want to be on the side of. Disgust is being repulsed by something, can be a smell, sight, or even a person. Disgust is a strange expression that involves turning the head away and the upturn of one corner of the mouth. It can be directed towards a specific behavior, but it is mostly used to determine that a human does not like something. I would argue that having a human disgusted with you is worse than having a human angry at you. Anger and respect can go hand in hand, but disgust and respect are mutually exclusive.
Empathetic pain: An emotion that seems almost entirely human. This involves a human's ability to watch another person and feel their pain. For instance, human males describe watching another man be kicked in sensitive areas and experiencing the contraction of muscles or even a tingling sensation in the area in which the other human was hurt, females can also experience the same sensation despite never having actually felt that sort of pain.
Entrancement: Sort of like adoration but involves less cognitive processing. A human isn't likely to be thinking very clearly if they are entranced with something. I would describe it almost as a hypnotic state.
Envy: When a human wants something that another person has. It can include an object, a situation, or an attribute they wish they had. In short it is the desire to have what someone else has and a resentment towards the person who has it instead of them.
Excitement: The most adorable human emotion. Excitement is joy but more aggressive, generally used situationally for an event, or for seeing someone they have not seen in a long time. Excitement can be in the moment or anticipatory. Humans like making lots of noise when they are excited whether it be screaming or talking, they may jump up and down or cavort around in other ways. Humans are very active when they are excited.
Fear: Self-explanatory, we all know fear. The imminent worry that you are going to die, be bodily injury or experience something else unpleasant. Humans even have the ability to fear on behalf of others.
Frustration: This is a stepping stone to anger that involves the desire to do something, but the inability to do it. Frustration happens when things are not going your way, and you cannot change it.
Hatred: the scariest of human emotions. I would argue it is an amalgamation of anger and disgust and may manifest in the desire to avoid, destroy or terminate whatever is the target of this emotion. Hatred, and maybe envy, are the wo greatest emotions that lead to murder. Once a human hates you, there is no coming back. Humans may use the word lightly to describe a mild dislike, but rarely do humans hate pickles they may dislike them but not hate them. Hatred is the desire to destroy, or obliterate whatever it is. If a human hates something, they wish them dead, desire to make them dead themselves, or desire for them something worse than death. Humans will use the word lightly, so make sure you examine body language when discussing this word with a human.
Horror: Horror is a mixture of disgust and fear. This is a human's response to seeing something so terrible that the brain can hardly comprehend what it is. It is almost like an equal but negative version of awe. It can be in response to horrible accidents, terrible situations or incomprehensible actions or atrocities committed by other humans.
Happiness: Contentment turned up. It is almost described as a warmth through the body, and an inability to stop smiling. Happiness is the emotional manifestation of feeling the sun on one's skin after a dark night.
Interest / curiosity: A common emotion we understand as the desire to want to know more about a specific subject.
Joy: Happiness turned to 11. This is happiness so intense the body cannot hold the emotion. Humans may scream, cry, laugh or many other physical actions in order to allow the release of this emotion. Joy is not a quiet or unnoticeable emotion.
Love: This is the best emotion to be the target of. Humans have many versions of it, but in essence if a human loves someone, their only desire or goal for that person is to see them happy. A human would do anything for someone they love, and that includes die for them, not just die for them but walk over fields of glass, through fire, thousands of miles. Humans have been known to survive past all odds and hold onto life, in order to see someone they love one last time. If you are lucky enough to have a human who has any sort of love towards you, you can rest assured that they will do whatever it is possible to keep you safe and happy.
Nostalgia: A strange human emotion that involves the desire for the past, or a fondness for the past. Playing a human a song that they may have heard often in their childhood may have them experiencing nostalgia.
Romance: This is a love, specifically between two partnered humans. Think love as mentioned earlier but with a physical or sexual component.
Sadness: This is the opposite of happiness, and is often described as a heavy feeling. Increase that feeling and you get something called sorrow which is the opposite of joy. This generally happens during unfortunate events like the death of a family member. This is generally associated with the loss of something, another human, a pet, innocence, a situation, or a better period of time. Sadness should be curbed quickly, for it is not good for humans over a long period of time. It is theorized that the feeling of sadness is evolutionary designed to get other human's attention looking for comfort.
Satisfaction: This is an internal feeling of pride, usually experienced when a human does something and it works out. I would call this the opposite of frustration. Humans experience this when they believe they have done a good job with something.
Sympathy: This is like empathetic pain, except can include emotion or situations. A human does not have to have experienced the pain or situation someone else is going through to feel sympathy for them. It is almost the feeling of proxy sadness and the desire that another person's situation get better. This is why humans are so good at understanding other species. A human who sympathizes with you might take your situation, imagine something similar and determine how they would feel if they were you, then they can experience a shadow of what you are feeling and thus sympathize. Is extremely important in a social society.
Triumph: A mixture of satisfaction and joy. This happens when a human has gone through a very difficult project, or experience and come out victorious. Triumph is experienced in war, beating a terrible illness, receiving what one has worked really hard for after years and years of dedication.
Some humans may tell you that they have not felt some of these emotions, and unless they have a mental illness, or some other rare reason, that makes them physically incapable, than they are absolute liars. They may not KNOW they experienced that emotion, or may not have the understanding to explain it, but deep down they know exactly what it means. If a human claims they don't experience emotion that way, tell them to stop being an edge-lord and that the inability to experience emotions is neither a good thing, something to be proud of, or even a possibility if you are a human.
I’m looking at you there human, the one who read this and was totally like: “yeah but I’ve never felt that before.” Stop trying to be special, you're human you know what all these feel like. You cannot be human without them.

Thanks for reading! As you saw in the title, this is a cross posted story written by starrfallknightrise and I'll just upload some of it here for you guys, if you are interested and want to read ahead, the original story-collection can be found on tumblr or wattpad to read for free. (link above this text under "OC:..." ) It is the Empyrean Iris story collection by starfallknightrise. Also, if you want to know more about the story collection i made an intro post about it, so feel free to check that out to see what other great characters to look forward to! (Link also above this text). I have no affiliations to the author; just thought I’d share some of the great stories you might enjoy a lot!
Obviously, I have Charlie’s permission to post this and for the people already knowing the stories, or starting to read them: If you follow the link and check out the story you will see some differences. I made some small (non-artistic) changes, mainly correcting writing mistakes, pronoun correction and some small additional info here and there of things which were not thought of/forgotten or even were added/changed in later stories (like the “USS->UNSC” prefix of Stabby, Chalar=/->Sunny etc). As well as some "biggemajor" changes in descriptions and info’s for the same stringency/continuity reason. That can be explained by the story collection being, well a story collection at the start with many standalone-stories just starring the same people, but later on it gets more to a stringent storyline with backstories and throwbacks. (For example Adam Vir has some HEAVY scars over his body, following his bones, which were not really talked about up till half the collection, where it says it covers his whole body and you find out via backflash that he had them the whole time and how he got them, they just weren't mentioned before. However, I would think a doctor would at least see these scars before that, especially since he gets analyzed, treated and goes shirtless/in T-shirts in some stories). So TLDR: Writing and some descriptions are slightly changed, with full OK from the author, since he himself did not bother to correct these things before.

Watch Now: John Wick: Chapter 4 [ONLINE] For Free
John Wick: Chapter 4 is by far the best of the four films starring Keanu Reeves as the eponymous hit man, the first of the cycle that I’d recommend—albeit with an asterisk. The new film (which opens Friday) has many of the same problems as its predecessors; although these problems are interesting, they’re far more fun to contemplate in the rearview mirror of thought than in the real-time forward motion of viewing. But something happens, fairly late in the game, that converts the film’s merely technical displays of bloody murder into something suspenseful and romantic, if no less silly. The details are too good to give away, but there’s no harm and much pleasure in considering how the movie climbs, slowly but surely, to that light-headed summit.

One of the curiosities of the John Wick series is that, as an entirely original creation dependent on no prior properties, it has nonetheless given rise to an alluring and self-perpetuating mythology of its own. The premise of Wick world is cleverly paranoiac, built around the tentacular connections between the crude underworld of contract killers and the shadowy overlords who keep them in action. That wicked authority is called the High Table; it dispenses orders to kill on pain of being killed, ratifies contracts for murder, and brokers the deals for bounty hunters. It commands John to kill, and it sets him up to be killed, but it also sets the tone of the movie. The High Table exemplifies a super-élite of secret societies with elaborate rites, deeply rooted aristocracies, a flaunting of mind-bending wealth, and the executive ruthlessness of a transnational shadow government that has the power to wreak havoc in public with impunity.

On 24th March 2023, Keanu Reeves starring JW4, is coming to your nearest theaters. This American neo-noir action thriller will be 169 minutes long and distributed by Lionsgate. Already, the official YouTube trailer is out, vibing fans' expectations!

2023.03.28 10:03 TheMissingVoteBallot Need help making a 1-person "organization" with Teams Essentials license from scratch so I can invite guest users

Ok, so a lot of us have the Teams free classic forced migration looming over our heads. To prepare for that, I'm trying to make a parallel setup where I will be creating a new organization from scratch and that organization will be run by 1 person with a Teams Essentials license. Then the rest of the users of that organization will be invited as guests as free users.
I thought I had it figured out where I create a completely new e-mail account, sign that e-mail account up for Teams Essentials, and then using that same account signing up for the "pay as you go" Azure Active AD. I thought Teams Essentials still uses AAD as its back end, so I made sure my own account was the sole owner, user, and license holder of the Teams Essentials license.
This way I'll be able to make an actual Team.
Only problem - I keep getting re-assigned the Teams Exploratory license, so I removed that license from my AAD, but now that I've done that, I'm unable to login because I keep getting the "You're missing out! Ask your admin to enable Microsoft Teams for (x company)" message, even though I've assigned that license to the one account I'm trying to login as.
I'm reading you have to assign the Teams app to the organization and the user in question, but I'm not getting any indications on where I could do that. The user has a Global Administrator role in AAD and I did my best to duplicate as much of the configuration of the Teams free classic org that was created.
I suspect I'm missing a key step here somewhere. Is a simple Teams Essentials paid license enough to create a brand new Teams org from scratch? I'm trying to go this route because I want the "Teams" functionality in there - I notice this option is not available if I just login as a Personal user.
Please let me know what I'm missing here. I feel like I'm almost there and I'm missing one major step somewhere.

I'm a devoted divorced parent of two kids, and I care about living a good and happy life, having a nice home, making memories, and building authentic and aligned connections with others. I read, think, and write about personal growth, healing from trauma, poly relationships, consent, magic, and all sorts of topics on a daily basis. I create music, and puzzles, and various silly, beautiful, and/or clever things. I enjoy nature, hiking, swimming, sitting in a hot tub, and cuddling. I love musicals and just saw the Matilda movie.
I am politically progressive. My favorite quote that I read today, in No Bad Parts by Richard Schwartz, is: "Too many of our institutions are based on the dark view [of humanity]. Take, for example, neoliberalism..." (I laughed out loud at this, because I wasn't expecting this book about the inner parts of our minds to be incisively political!) I am a hetero cis male with one non-binary (non-nesting) partner.
This doesn't have to be a romantic connection, but I want to talk about our lives, and life in general, and have there be some attraction and bonding. It could be online. You know how in a rom-com, like You've Got Mail, the characters end up reflecting on their lives (and loves) with some good humor and a little sentimentality, for the listening pleasure of someone who cares? I want that kind of conversation. It could even be that we write emails.
Turn-ons: Down-to-earth, sweet, authentic, active, have goals and activities but also free time, nerdy, soulful, smart, healthy, somewhat confident and self-loving, functional, good writer, curious, passionate. Honesty, vulnerability, and transparency. Maybe someone who has a concept of God, Source, or a higher power, and is seeking something that fits with that. Available enough to make me feel like our connection matters.
Turn-offs: Depressed, very lonely, overweight, major health issues, spend all day on video games and TV. I am not a stranger to physical and mental health issues, and I have some I am working on, but they are pretty manageable these days compared to the heavy burdens some people are dealing with, and I've held a lot of space for past partners around these issues. I would like someone who, while they may feel down at times, also brings their own personal movement and joy and light. On the other hand, some people are too fast and light for me, it seems, going from one social event, friend, partner, sport, festival, dance, trip, etc to the next. It's hard for me to relate to that, as an introvert, and understand where I fit into the whirlwind; this is just what I've noticed. I'm looking for someone who has found—or is very actively seeking—balance in their life. Also a turn-off: lots of typos and low effort put into communication. People who are hyper-confident or present that way. Or judgmental. Finding that we're both just making skillful but trite smalltalk. My ideal conversation partner is not neurotypical or neurodivergent to the max, but somewhere in the middle.
I strongly feel that, because I have written so much about myself, and I don't know anything about you except what you tell me (and what's in your history), it should feel natural for you to share a little about yourself, as well as refer to things I have written, as we start our conversation! I like when people want to share about themselves, and want to know more about me, and don't just say "hey" or "how is your day."

2023.03.28 10:01 Jakechelsea 7 Simple Evening Habits to Transform Your Morning Routine

Have you thought ‘tomorrow is the day, the day I finally get up early and attack the day, new day, new me’ and then the alarm goes off, you hit snooze and wake up the same time you always have? Of course you have, we all have.
Good intentions really don’t account for much, it’s our actions that determine our success or failure in becoming an early riser.
It wasn’t until I embarked on my own journey I realised that without changing my evening habits I could never change my morning habits.
By tweaking just a few habits before jumping into bed we can drastically increase our chances of waking up early and get our first big accomplishment of the day out of the way - not hitting snooze!
Here are the 7 super simple tweaks I have made to my evening routine that have enabled me to stick to my wake up time.
Read to the end to find the one thing that makes all 7 of these habits IRRELEVANT!

Reverse engineer your wake up time

‘Right that’s it, tomorrow I’m waking up at 6.30am and I’m attacking the day with vigour’. You’ve had this thought before right? And when you wake up 3 hours later, you instantly blame the alarm clock. ‘It didn’t go off! I slept right through it!’.
What actually happened is you were so tired you turned the alarm off and before your conscious brain could even kick in you were asleep again within 9 seconds and you totally forgot that this happened just a few hours ago.
We have all been there.
You didn’t reverse engineer your wake up time. See me, I need 8 hours. I can function on less but my body really does need a solid 8 hours. However, I typically fall asleep around midnight, sometimes around 1am if I’m particularly restless.
Now if I want to get up around 7am then I’m waking up after just 6ish hours of sleep. The amount of times I’ve smashed the snooze button and turned the alarm off in just 6 hours of sleep is staggering. I have ZERO discipline when I have a poor night's sleep.
My failure was that I didn’t reverse engineer my wake up time. I want to wake up at 7am and I need 8 hours, then I MUST be asleep by 11pm. I can safely say that whenever I’m asleep at 11pm then waking up at 7am is easy.
I backed up my clock and set a time I must be asleep by. Now for me, I take around 20 mins to fall asleep. So I have to be in bed at 10.40pm. If I fall asleep quicker than 20 mins then that’s a bonus. If it takes me 30 mins it’s not the end of the world. I can survive on 7 hours 50.
Our body clocks are different. Some people only need 6 hours, others need 9. Start at the time you want to wake up and back up your clock the amount of hours of sleep you need.
Want to wake up at 6am but you need 9 hours sleep, then you must be asleep by 9pm. Woke backwards from here. You might need to make dinner earlier or record your favourite show between 9 and 10 and watch it the next day.
In some cases, this is going to be difficult because of life and work commitments. So choose a wake up time that fits your lifestyle.
The important point here is to set your wake up time, recognise the time you must be asleep by and aim for that. But experiment with different wake up times and sleep times to find what works for you. We are all different.

Blocking blue light after 7pm

I just wrote an article called ‘The science of blocking blue light before bedtime’.
You can read this for why this is important. But a quick hack to block blue light on your iPhone is:
  1. Go to settings
  2. Display & Brightness
  3. Night Shift
  4. Slide the colour temperature to ‘More Warm’
I have set mine to block blue light between 7pm and 9am. This is a super simple hack to limit the amount of blue light you get before you go to sleep, which numerous scientific studies have found greatly improves sleep length and sleep quality.

Prepare for the first task of the day only

I recently wrote about how my jump rope workout plan faded when I forgot to prepare my workout clothes before I went to sleep.
The simple act of getting my workout shorts, top and socks out and having them ready for me to jump into made the jump rope workout a much easier habit to adopt.
Think about what the first thing you want to do is. Workout? Get your workout clothes ready. Walk the dog? Get your outfit including coat and scarf ready and put the dog lead on top of it.
There is a famous speech by Admiral William H. McRaven who emphasised making the bed. It was a win. The first win of the day. A small insignificant win that made it easier to complete more tasks and set the day up for a series of wins.
So focus only on the first task of the day and prepare your outfit the night before and when you wake up all you need to do is complete that task. By outfit, I’m obviously talking about clothes. But if you want your first task to be journaling, then get the pen and pad, write tomorrow’s date at the top and leave the pad open on the table ready for you.
You will be greatly surprised, as I was, at how easy it is to start the morning on the right foot just by preparing for the first task of the day.

No late meals or snacks

You know that feeling of climbing into bed with a stomach full of food, I find this uncomfortable and it makes me restless. All I can think about is how full I am.
I try to eat 2-2.5 hours before going to bed. This is enough time for my body to digest the food and I can sleep well fed.
Think about what you are asking your body to do when you eat late night snacks or go to bed right after a big meal. You’re asking your body to kick into gear and start breaking down the food for nutrients. We want the body and brain to be at rest so that we can fall asleep more easily.
Intermittent fasting is a great way to stop eating late night snacks. Choose one of the many apps, my personal favourite is ‘Zero’ and start eating during your eating window only. This will help to know when to eat and when not to eat.
Maybe one day I’ll do a breakdown on how IF affects sleep quality and patterns.

Pick up a book

This is a personal favourite. I love to read. One because I just enjoy learning new things (I’m a big non-fiction fan) but also because IT MAKES ME SLEEPY.
I read a kindle which means I’m not absorbing any blue light late at night, my wife reads a proper paperback. But both of our eyelids slowly begin to close after about 15 minutes and all of a sudden we are asleep.
I genuinely think reading is life’s cheat code and a form of time travel. If you read a book written in Ancient Greece you are literally travelling back in time to the mind of the person that wrote it.
But one of the hidden benefits of adopting a reading habit is that it helps me to unwind at the end of the day, away from my phone and social media and before I know it I’m asleep.
Pick up a book, any book that you fancy and for the final 15 mins of the day, just read it. You’ll soon see what I mean.

Set a Do Not Disturb schedule

Notifications are how apps like Facebook and Twitter make you become addicted to them.
WIthout notifications you probably wouldn’t think to open 75% of the apps you have installed on your phone.
The notification creates a trigger that turns into action.
Set a Do Not Disturb schedule on your phone, perhaps the same time you have your blue light block set for. During this time you won’t receive any notification pop ups. This helps in two ways:
For reasons we will explore another time, limiting the hours spent on our digital devices either side of going to sleep is hugely beneficial.
A great morning routine is one that doesn’t involve diving right into social media as soon as you wake up.
This is infinitely more difficult when there are tons of notifications from 10+ apps compelling us into action.
Setting the phone to Do Not Disturb is also great if you need to focus and be productive and much like the blue light blocking hack is super simple to start.
Bonus: The one thing that makes all 7 of these totally useless and irrelevant.
Going out after work for a few drinks? Going for a meal with a loved one and getting deep into a bottle of Merlot? Fancy a few cold cans on the sofa after a long stressful day?
I have found alcohol to be the biggest nullifier of the morning routine.
Yes you could still do these 7 things but the effects alcohol has on the length of sleep and how many good quality hours of sleep you get make it very hard to have discipline in the morning.
But that’s ok. You don’t need to stop drinking (unless you want to), but recognise that tomorrow you need a different approach. A later wake up time, a different morning task, whatever.
When I am out with work friends for a few drinks, I set my alarm to a more suitable wake up time simply because I know that the effect those few drinks have on me is going to make it difficult for me to rise as early as I would like.

Do the same 3 things before you go to sleep

Do the exact same things just before going to sleep.
For me, I clean my teeth, prepare my outfit for the next day, read a book, sleep.
I want to train my brain and body to recognise that I am about to fall asleep.
I choose those three actions as my cue to the brain to start getting prepared to fall asleep.
This mini-routine within my evening routine is as important as my entire routine. This consistency takes away any decision making I need to make and I can go through this mini-routine with ease.
Try it. And then experiment with doing something random one night and you will notice the difference in your ability to fall asleep. Then again, this might just be the effect it has on me! This is a journey of self-discovery and you should do the same!
So there you have it, 7 super simple evening habits you can adopt to set yourself up for early riser success.
How many of these do you do? Is there anything you recommend?

I’ve spent the past 3 months obsessing over my sleep, my wake up time and my morning routine.
And I’ve been able to influence my mood, productivity and find my purpose… and I feel like I’m only at the beginning.
I send two emails per week of things I learn about waking up early, morning routines and creating an intentional life.

2023.03.28 10:01 vomchimoniss German Sherpherd : The Active Dog

German Sherpherd : The Active Dog
Looking for a furry companion that can keep up with your active lifestyle? Look no further than the German Shepherd! These loyal and energetic pups are the perfect match for those who love to hike, run, and explore. But there's more to these dogs than just their athleticism - they're also highly intelligent and protective of their families. So if you're looking for a four-legged friend that will always be by your side on all your adventures, read on to learn more about why the German Shepherd is the ultimate active dog breed.

https://vomchimonis.com/
Muscular Body
The German Shepherd is a dog that is well-known for its athletic build and muscular body. This breed is often used in police and military work, as well as in competitive obedience and agility trials. German Shepherds are also popular family pets.
While the average weight of a German Shepherd is between 75 and 95 pounds, there is considerable variation among individual dogs. Some may be larger or smaller than this range. The coat of the German Shepherd can be medium to long in length and may be either straight or wavy. Common coat colors include black, tan, and red.
German Shepherds are energetic dogs that need plenty of exercise to stay healthy and happy. A daily walk or run is essential, and this breed also enjoys playing fetch or Frisbee. If not given enough physical activity, German Shepherds may become bored or destructive.
Fast Runner
German Shepherds are one of the most popular dog breeds in the world, and it's no wonder why. They're intelligent, loyal, and active dogs that make great companions.
One of the things that makes German Shepherds so great is their speed. They're fast runners and love to play fetch. If you're looking for an active dog to take on hikes or runs with you, a German Shepherd is a perfect choice.
While they're very active dogs, German Shepherds are also gentle and loving. They make great family pets and are always eager to please their owners. If you're looking for a well-rounded dog that will be a lifelong companion, a German Shepherd is a great choice.
Smelling Power
While German Shepherds are known for their strong sense of smell, did you know that this sense of smell is actually one of the things that make them such great dogs?
A dog's sense of smell is about 10,000 times stronger than a human's. This means that they can use their noses to track down anything from a lost toy to a dangerous criminal. And while all dogs have a great sense of smell, German Shepherds are particularly gifted in this area.
This keen sense of smell is what makes German Shepherds such great police and military dogs. They can be trained to sniff out drugs, explosives, and even missing people. In fact, there are many stories of German Shepherds finding lost children or tracking down criminals on the run.
So if you're ever looking for something (or someone), don't hesitate to ask your German Shepherd for help!
Hearing Power
The German Shepherd is an active dog that needs plenty of exercise to stay in shape. They are also very versatile and can be trained to do a variety of tasks. One of the most important things to remember when owning a German Shepherd is that they need to be socialized from a young age. This includes exposure to different people, places, and situations. Without proper socialization, German Shepherds can become fearful or aggressive.
Barking Power
As the name suggests, German Shepherds were originally bred in Germany in the late 1800s. They were created by crossing several different types of herding dogs, including the old English sheepdog, the black-and-tan sheepdog, and the gray wolf. The resulting breed was a large, powerful dog with a strong work ethic and an intelligent mind.
Today, German Shepherds are still prized for their working abilities. They are used as police and military dogs, bomb-sniffing dogs, search-and-rescue dogs, and service dogs for people with disabilities. They are also popular companions for active families who enjoy hiking, biking, and other outdoor activities.
German Shepherds have a reputation for being aggressive or even dangerous dogs. However, this is not true of all German Shepherds. With proper socialization and training, German Shepherds can be gentle, loving companions.

2023.03.28 10:00 naijaorganics HOW TO PICK THE RIGHT FACE WASH BASED ON YOUR SKIN TYPE?

HOW TO PICK THE RIGHT FACE WASH BASED ON YOUR SKIN TYPE?
We all want clean, blemish-free, smooth, and moisturized skin. However, in order to acquire that type of skin, we must apply, wash, and do more every day until the skin begins to glow. Facewash is the first step in your daily skincare routine, but with so many options available, choosing the proper face wash can be difficult.
Do you know which one is best for you and what works best for your skin type? If not, read our article on how to choose the best face wash for your skin type. But before we begin, let’s understand what face wash is and why it’s important for you.

https://preview.redd.it/6dz6u92osfqa1.jpg?width=857&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3dbee830b0406152b38ca2e4c4023d0a4fb96a06

What is a face wash and why it’s necessary?

Our skin is exposed to various contaminants, such as dirt, pollutants, pollen, and dust, on a daily basis. As a result, it becomes tired and in need of regular care to remain healthy and glowing. One way to do this is by using a natural face wash to cleanse and hydrate the skin.
A face wash is a skincare product designed to remove dirt, makeup, sweat, germs, and excess oil from the surface of the skin. It is important to choose a face wash that is suitable for your skin type, as using a drying cleanser can cause irritation and a rich cleanser can clog pores.
It is important to start with a clean soft cloth before implementing any other skincare routines, even if you are using an organic facial cleanser. Using a natural face wash is a great place to begin. By incorporating this daily practice into your routine, you can help maintain radiant, natural skin.

Understand your skin type

1. Dry Skin

Irritation and flakiness are common symptoms of dry skin. For dry skin, use a face wash that is gentle on the skin and promotes hydration. Face wash with an oil base is good for those with dry skin since they effectively remove contaminants while providing the hydration your face craves. Antibacterial face wash and soaps should be avoided because they may dry up your skin and include exfoliants such as glycolic or salicylic acid.

2. Sensitive Skin

If you have sensitive skin, use an ultra-mild face wash that is free of alcohol, sulfates, and fragrances are the ideal choice for this type of skin. Your skin is sensitive and reactive all the time, especially after shaving or cleaning. Be considerate in this situation.

3. Oily Skin

Choose a face wash with either of the following ingredients in it – salicylic acid, tea tree oil, or niacinamide. These ingredients keep the oil balance in check and reopen the pores. Consider selecting face wash with tea tree and aloe vera extracts, which will soothe and rejuvenate your skin, assisting you in dealing with oily skin.

4. Normal Skin

Consider yourself fortunate if you have normal skin! Your skin does not experience excessive dryness or oily glands. This does not exempt you from using a cleanser. Clean skin allows other skincare products to enter deeper into the skin and do their work more effectively. You should use a lotion-textured face cleanser.

5. Combination Skin

An ultra-gentle face wash like a natural organic face wash benefits both sensitive and mixed skin. Combination skin is characterized by an oily T-zone and dry skin around the eyes. As a result, such skin types require a cleanser that is effective on oily areas while also being gentle on dry areas. A foam or gel-based cleanser will accomplish the job well. It regulates the pH of the skin while washing and hydrating it.

Types of face wash you can find in the market

  • Gel face wash: Gel face wash like aloe vera gel face wash is great for oily skin because it can remove excess oil from your pores and give your skin a tighter, less oily appearance. Just be sure to maintain a healthy lifestyle, including a good diet, regular sleep, and an effective workout routine, to really see the benefits on your skin.
  • Foaming face wash: Foaming face wash are another option, especially for those with oily or acne-prone skin. The foaming action helps to lift dirt and debris out of your pores, leaving your skin feeling refreshed. If you want to remove heavy layers of foundation, try pairing your foaming cleanser with a foaming solution.
  • Cream face wash: Cream face wash, on the other hand, have a thicker consistency and often contains moisturizing ingredients like milk and honey, making them a good choice for dry, sensitive, or mature skin. Just be sure to give your skin enough time to soak and wash it off thoroughly to avoid clogging your pores.
  • Oil-based face wash: Oil-based face wash may seem counterintuitive for oily skin, but it can actually help to prevent excess oil production. This face wash is effective at removing makeup, dirt, and other debris, while also gently conditioning the skin.

Conclusion

In order to maintain healthy and clean skin, it’s important to use a good cleanser that can effectively remove dirt, makeup, and other impurities. This helps to keep your face fresh and ready for the next step in your skincare routine. It’s easy to skip this step, but it’s crucial to choose a cleanser that is suitable for your skin type to ensure that you are properly cleansing your face. Make sure to prioritize this step in your skincare routine for the best results.
Some ingredients to look for in a face wash include sulfate-free surfactants like Cocamidopropyl betaine or caprylic triglyceride, which are gentle on the skin. It is also important to avoid using regular soap on the face, as it can be harsh and drying and may cause skin damage over time.

Sony Is Acting Unfairly Against Xbox in Japan, US Congress Members Say Push Square
In another twist for the surreal, the Biden administration is now being pressured by members of Congress from both sides of the political aisle to take decisive action on a supposed 'monopoly' held by PlayStation on the Japanese video game market.
Some required reading on this one, as it all stems from comments made by Democratic Senator Maria Cantwell (D-Wash) to U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai on Friday regarding a supposed imbalance in the high-end Japanese game market which adversely affects American companies.
As reported by Axios, now 10 additional members of Congress have since penned their own concerns in two letters, one each from both Republicans and Democrats.
It's worth noting that seven of the ten representatives are from Washington, Microsoft's home state. In addition, the company is Cantwell's largest political donor, having forked over more than half a million dollars over the past few decades.

https://preview.redd.it/c8b7jwx3sfqa1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bd0586062e2c40c2dace72cb30f91023cd897005
Both letters have a different political angle, as you might imagine, and both cite that misleading "98% of the high-end video game market" figure, which completely ignores the monstrous impact of PC, mobile, and, you know, Nintendo. That last one is kinda important, too, what with Switch being the console that actually dominates the region in reality.
In related news, the UK's Competition and Markets Authority is no longer concerned about Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard, meaning the proposed buyout of the company is now far more likely to go through.
With both Democrats and Republicans demanding an investigation into the purported unfair business practices implemented by Sony, we imagine it won't be the last we hear of this particular matter.

2023.03.28 09:57 vikaslohia Hi, I am new and I have lots of questions.

Hello guys,
So I started 5 days ago. In my first game, I got a really aggressive and experienced neighbour. Who immediately declared war on me and took my half country before I could even figure out what am I doing, lol.
So, the next day I started another game. I got peaceful neighbours who allied with me on one side and an ocean on another. This gave me some time to explore the game and learn how to play. I did try wiki but it's not that helpful and I think it's not updated with the current UI.
So here are my questions, they may sound stupid but I am just a beginner. Also, not a premium user.

  1. Resources. I never have enough of them. How do I increase them? Should I have an industry in every urban province as well as rural ones? Will it increase my resources incrementally or exponentially? What else I can do to increase resources apart from conquering?
  2. How does Aircraft carrier work? Do I have to produce aircraft in factory and send them to carrier or AC have its own aircraft? When I commanded it to attack, it did nothing.
  3. Like industry, should I station some troops in each province? or just keep all together at one point?
  4. How does rally point works?
  5. What are the secrets of the secret lab? I am yet to construct one. Where would be the ideal place to construct a secret lab, in a city where most of my military factories are located or in a city where none of my military factories is located? Also, do I have to construct multiple secret labs?
  6. Should I have an airfield in each and every province and city?
  7. Militia or infantry?
  8. Also, the more units I have, the more will be daily cost, right? So I have to keep up with economy as my military power increases. Any suggestions how to do that please?
  9. Which are the fastest troops?
  10. Ideal troop grouping?

That's all for now. Thank you for reading.

2023.03.28 09:55 Dyba1 WARNO 1V1 Rookie Tournament Hosted by SDL - Join now!

Hello u/Warno Generals! Do you dream of 1v1 tournament glory, but struggle to obtain results? Are you new, possibly transitioning from past Eugen titles like SD2 and WG:RD? Either way, we've got your back!

It is our pleasure to introduce the first Warno 1v1 tournament oriented around new players! The event will be starting on April 9th, 2023, and should last 4-6 weeks. We are hosting this event in the Simulated Divisions League discord, a longstanding community hub for competitive Steel Division 2 and Warno.

Struggling with game mechanics, divisions, or maps? No longer! We have FOUR well-known and highly capable coaches who will work alongside you to improve your gameplay and learn new things.

The format is like this: There is a group stage and a playoff bracket. Groups consist of four players, with the top two performers from each group heading to an 8-person playoff to determine who is the biggest noob of them all.

Please read the rules on the Google Doc here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eNoc6DIAM9HqQHdofi3rsuUMR-syHCVKe97zrI0r2mk/edit?usp=sharing
