2023.03.28 10:06 Maelas84 How to get original birth certificate for my mother in America.

Hello all,
Ive run into an issue that im trying to help my mother with. The Social Security office where she lives requires an original birth certificate (Geburtsurkunde) and will not accept a copy. However, the standesamt will not send the original. What does a person do in this case??
I had this same issue when I was 16 in america trying to get my drivers license. My birth certificate was in Germany and the DMV would not accept military documents of my birth abroad.
What can a person do in these cases where an american office needs original documents that Germany will not send?
